When a worry thought pops up…
1. I Identify it as a worry
2. I think of how I want the situation to turn out
3. I think of something positive I can do now to move toward perfect completion (it may be prayer alone)
4. I imagine the feeling and the experience of perfect completion
5. I expect the positive outcome
6. I thank God in advance for the positive outcome
7. I think about something else
If the worry thought pops up again later, I forgive myself and repeat the process with a smile on my face.

Dementia, a Killer Disease
I know hundreds of family members who are watching their loved one slowly fade away from them. I know hundreds more family members who fought the dementia battle to the bitter end. As caregivers, these are special earthly angels with the mission to administer peace to a beloved soul getting ready for heaven. In my ministry, it has been my privilege to watch these angels in action.
I am a missionary in the “foreign land” called nursing homes. As Doctor Sunshine, I sing, play the guitar, play the piano, tell some corny jokes, and pray with God’s beautiful souls He has not forgotten. In 1998, I answered His call to share His message of peace, love, and joy. Holyfun Music Ministry was birthed. Over 2,500 shows later, I have grown to love them and honor them as they bravely act out their final scene.
My angels asked me to write a book about my journey. NURSING HOMES A Missionary’s Journey Through Heaven’s Waiting Room was published in July of 2022.
I am honored to be God’s chosen messenger and mirror His love for them.
It has been my honor to interact with thousands of seniors. I speak for them when I say that all any of them want is to have their family’s love.
It breaks my heart that some of my nursing home resident friends never get visited. It saddens me that so many people are apathetic to a travesty in our society.
Too many of us have become infatuated with money, self-importance, and power.
Is it time for our country to unite under God and honor Him with our love for each other.
I dare you. Go visit some one in a nursing home this week. It starts one person at a time, but we need to do what God asked of us in Leviticus 19:32. “Honor the elderly. Show them respect. In this way you Honor your God. I am the Lord.”
Old people matter to God. They should matter to us. Old people matter!

A specific group of God’s children are under distress. He might say that they need help and the only ones that can help them are their children or their relatives. The elderly are running out of time. Their bodies are naturally deteriorating and life gets more difficult every day. Every senior just wants your love. Old people matter to God!

It is unlikely that there is a person on the planet who has not been victimized at some time in their life. At this precise moment, there are liars, cheaters, scammers, and thieves just a hack away. Even more likely is that we are often victimized in our own personal relationships. Even though the name may be accurate, possession of the label could be the downfall of every individual who succumbs to the temptation. If our society becomes a failure, it will be because we became a society of victims.
The moment we claim to be victims is the moment we surrender our God-given ability to take responsibility for our own happiness. We don’t have to ignore the act and when possible, we can seek justice. But then, we have to let it go. If not, it will consume us. If we take possession, it will permeate our cells and chain us to mediocrity. When victimhood lingers, the mind becomes obsessed with the past and cannot focus on the opportunities of the day.
I like the old adage that when you point your finger, there are three more fingers pointing back at you. Unless we appoint ourselves “the CEO of me”, we will be slaves to the lifelong battle to “get even.”
When I learned to forgive it was for a selfish reason. The only way to get negative people out of my life was to lock the door in my mind. Not because they “deserved” forgiveness, but I deserved the peace of mind.
If you are still living in the past because of something that happened or something somebody said, you are depriving yourself of God’s greatest gift: the gift of the present.
The real victims are the victims themselves. They are destroying their life of peace and have replaced it with a life of hate. There is more hate in our world than ever before. Too many of us aren’t “for” anything. We’re just mad and “against this or that.”
Cayce’s thoughts have inspired me. Hate has no room left over for even a little love.

I have been blessed to write several modern day hymns, but the old ones still inspire me. One of the great old hymns about The Bible is “O Word of God Incarnate.” It metaphors the Bible to be like a lantern to our footsteps. But a flashlight is ineffective unless we “turn it on.”

People ask me all the time how I managed to keep going to nursing homes over 2,500 times. There are several specific scriptures that serve as my rock. This one is as close as a breath away:

But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what He wants. Then the other things will be yours as well.
One Tuesday afternoon, this lady (whom I did not know) rolled up to me and asked me to touch her leg. It was in a huge boot and after she told me her name, I touched the cast and prayed “God, thank you for Ms. Naomi’s faith. Thank you for healing her leg.”
She later told me, “You didn’t do anything, and I didn’t do anything. God worked His miracle because you and I got totally in our hearts and found omnipotent faith.”

This was the first Reiki experience for both of us.
Doctor: Yes, I know, we thought your leg was broken in three places, Ms. Rodriguez. But we just took three X-Rays and there are no fractures and there is no need for an operation.
Ms. Rodriguez: Yes, I know. By my faith I was healed!
I have always known that there are two main reasons I do a monthly Holyfun
Music Ministry E-Letter. One is to document the journey and secondly, it is all
time stamped. That became significant a few weeks after the book NURSING
HOMES A Missionary’s Journey Through Heaven’s Waiting Room had been
published, I was scrolling through some four-year-old Holyfun Newsletters and
found this article. I had completely forgotten about it. The Holyfun January
Newsletter was written in late December of 2017. Looking backward, I now know
that it was one week later when I began writing the book. It took four years, a
thousand re-writes, and four title changes. This was where my heart was as I
began to write God’s book.

It was also written three years before I broke my left wrist in three places.
In retrospect, I suspect I had to be this peaceful to keep my eye on “the Skies” and
not “the prize“.
